The Treasure

With new project The Treasure, Hangardz;

Invites to watch a journey that will blow from the local to the universal breath of Western Armenian while we celebrate dissident author from Istanbul, Zaven Biberyan’s 100^th birthday this year with his story of the same name, in which he wrote the inner conflicts, passions, and concerns of domination of human with a colorful style, inspired by his observations during the years he worked as a construction site manager in Beirut. 

The project took shape when Yeğya Akgün, who is the general director of the project, took this story with his radio theater practice, which he first shared with the hangardz team during the COVID-19 pandemic and later met with increasing popularity in the society and went on research in the waters of Object Theater. For the team that wants to expand the playgrounds limited by the pandemic conditions with digital opportunities, the limbs of the theatrical skeleton are complemented by different disciplines such as animation, painting and voice acting. 

Thus, while going through these dark days, the hangardz family, who discovered Biberyan‘s “Treasure”, finds the greatest treasure: their will to produce together with the Armenian language, which will never be possible to cover with soil. 

ZAVEN BİBERYAN

Biberyan, who is one of the most important writers raised by the Armenian community of Istanbul, which lost their precious intellectuals in the 20th century, was born exactly one hundred years ago. He mirrored the Armenian society with his novels and stories and stood against all kinds of discrimination with his journalist and political identity. He packed many lives into a life that can be considered short and left an important literary and intellectual legacy to the next generations.
