“hangardz”

Istanbul based theatre ensemble “hangardz”, which “suddenly” set off on World Theatre Day in 2018 with its first play, “Mer Chunetsadzı İrarmov Kıdnenk” (Let’s Find in Each Other What We Don’t Have) had its world premiere at the Synergy World Theatre Festival in Novi Sad, Serbia. Until the outbreak of the pandemic, the same play was performed in important theater venues of Istanbul such as Moda Theatre, Bomontiada Performans Theatre, Theatre Bereze, Theatron, and Tatavla Theatre.

To commemorate the 100th birthday of Zaven Biberyan in 2021, hangardz has treated the author’s Kantsı story as a digital theatre research and presented it to the audience on its website.

Founding members Garine Maral Çizmeciyan, Lara Narin, Tara Demircioğlu and Yeğya Akgün;

After completing their theater training, which started with the traditional master-apprentice relationship, which is an integral part of the Istanbul Armenian Theatre, under the leading academic roofs of the city, they adopted a collective production approach.

The “hangardz” theatre ensemble;

aims to maintain the international awareness it started to create about the Armenian cultural and artistic life, which has existed in Istanbul for many years, with the awareness of being a reminder of freedom and solidarity.
