Brother Bagdasar

We all know the inevitable end of life. But what about the beginning? What does it bring when the waves of the limitless atomic ocean crash onto the shore? The gift of life, the result of countless possibilities and extraordinary coincidences. What awaits a newborn baby? As we walk the paths of life, what do we become over time? Good? Bad? Patient? Virtuous? Unfortunate? Fair? Passionate? Crazy? Some of us are forced to witness the pain of others. Some of us are curious about the mysteries of the universe. Some of us are born observers. Some of us make more mistakes than corrections. Some of us are blind and deaf… Some of us have senses that are more sensitive than others. This gives them the chance to better feel the beauty of life. As actors and actresses, we understood the impact of the theater on people when we saw it. We have witnessed from an early age that life is full of chaos, difficulties, joys, disappointments, and beauty, and we have tried to give humanity peace, hope, and even a moment of happiness. We have seen that there is an extraordinary world beyond the usual and the known, in everything and everyone. I will not prolong this any further.

Dear audience, I am your humble Hagop Baronyan. Do not take seriously the words of this theater enthusiast who speaks to you in his own language, Western Armenian, from a century ago, which was once understandable.

Inspired by the master Moliere, I have written the play ‘Bağdasar Ağpar’ which will be performed for you as a reading theater by the members of the independent theater troupe hangardz. I wish we could speak to you in its original language, but current conditions do not permit it; alas! maybe in the future. I wish you an enjoyable performance.

*In the fifth Moliere Talks organized by IBB, after the seminar “Istanbul’s Style Moliere: Hagop Baronyan” by our dear Mehmet Fatih Uslu, we brought Hagop Baronyan’s play “Bağdasar Ağpar” to our audience with a reading theater.
